We can cut crime

Sir Menzies Campbell launched the Lib Dem campaign today

Cardiff South and Penarth Campaigner Dominic Hannigan has welcomed the new Lib Dem strategy to cut crime in the UK. Liberal Democrat Leader Sir Menzies Campbell announced the plans today.Under Labour, less than one in one hundred of all crimes committed lead to prosecution.

Dominic Hannigan said "The Lib Dems have shown today that we have the willingness to tackle crime in Britain head on."

"After ten years in power, and an awful lot of tough talk, Labour have failed to deliver on policing and justice for victims. Its always amusing to hear Labour claiming to be the tough party on crime but you only have to look at many of our streets and neighbourhoods today to know that they have failed dismally."

"The Liberal Democrat plans show real ways of cutting crime, re-offending and antisocial behaviour."

"Our police do a great job, but there needs to be more of them, that is why the scandal of the money that police forces were forced to spend in Labour's botched merger scheme is so hard for many people to stomach."

The Lib Dem five point plan for cutting crime is as follows:

1. More police on patrol

2. Compulsory work and training in prison to cut re-offending

3. Better compensation for victims paid for by prison work

4. Take back our town centres by letting communities close pubs and clubs that cause trouble

5. Make sentences mean what they say. LIFE SHOULD MEAN LIFE

Ming Campbell also unveiled a new website about the plans at www.wecancutcrime.com
