Dominic Hannigan blasts Labour led Vale council over roads surrounding Llandough Hospital.7.14.00am GMT Wed 14th Feb 2007
Cardiff South and Penarth Liberal Democrat Campaigner, Dominic Hannigan has hit out at the Vale of Glamorgan Council after access to Llandough Hospital was stopped by the weather last week. During the heavy snow on Thursday and Friday, it became impossible for many patients and staff to gain access to the hospital because the roads had not been cleared of snow and ice. Dominic Hannigan said, "it beggars belief that the roads surrounding a hospital with emergency services like Llandough were not at the top of the list for gritting when the snow began. "I have heard terrible stories from local residents of cars being unable to get up the hill and patients and staff being unable to make it to the hospital at all. "The snow on Thursday morning was widely forecasted and I think that it is shocking that the Labour Executive did not have a plan in place to ensure that access to the hospital was maintained. "I am demanding at the very least, an apology from the Labour Council over this and assurances that in the future, plans will be put in place to allow patients and staff to get to the hospital in cold weather."
