Dominic Hannigan ahieved the biggest swing of all the candidates.

After the final results of Thursday's Assembly Election in Cardiff South and Penarth, Lib Dem candidate Dominic Hannigan thanked the people of the constituency for providing the "warmest welcome anywhere in Wales."

The Lib Dems achieved an excellent result on Thursday, increasing their share of the vote by almost 5.5% and slashing the Labour candidate's majority.

The Lib Dems gained the biggest increase in support of all the candidates, and again showed that they are the only party who can challenge Labour in the seat.

Speaking after the count in Cardiff, Dominic Hannigan said: "I am delighted with tonight's result, again the Lib Dems have showed that there is an alternative to Labour in Cardiff South and Penarth.

"I have every confidence that the Lib Dems will win this constituency within the next few years and provide that strong voice that people desperately need. While I congratulate the Labour candidate, I think that this election has shown that she and her party must stop taking areas like ours for granted.

Dominic went on to pay tribute to the people of Cardiff South and Penarth.

He said: "I would just like to thank the thousands of people who put their support in me, and the many thousands more who, whatever their political persuasion, wished me well along the way.

"Cardiff South and Penarth has provided me with the warmest welcome anywhere in Wales, and this is the biggest strength of our area. I look forward to fighting for this again in the future.

Ends.
